Angel Tree 2015 was a record year in many respects. Firstly 3715 children were approved for gifts compared to 3591 in 2014 and 3584 in 2013. This was pulled off even after having experienced a delayed release of application forms from many of the prisons. Our evaluation indicates that operating with new computers that were more reliable enabled the team to perform better and cope with the last minute influx of applications.
The new computers were thanks to The Lion Foundation and Sky City.
A big thank you goes to all the voluntary coordinators who do an amazing job each year. 2015 in particular saw some Regional Coordinators operating with less Area Coordinators than in the past, as well as some of them supporting other regions by organizing for people to purchase gifts for children in another region that couldn’t cover their own. To mention two people specifically Heather Chaddock stepped into the role of coordinating the Upper North Island in the absence of a PFNZ staff member and Alison Twist our new Auckland based District Facilitator stepped up at short notice to sort out Pukekohe before she commenced her employment. Without these two we would have experienced a major collapse.
Auckland regions in particular are still highly lacking some key coordinators so if that might be you please contact Philippa on 0800 777 887.
Collaborating with WINZ and Orongomai Marae created a win-win relationship. They supplied unemployed people who needed work experience and these people managed our Call Centre. They all developed new skills and work ethics whilst increasing their confidence and we have provided references. This worked so well that it will be an ongoing relationship.
We look forward to Angel Tree Christmas 2016.
